USB Stick

Het transporteerbaar opslaan van data is reeds lang een noodzaak om het uitwisselen van bestanden makkelijk te maken. Tegenwoordig brengt het internet hier vaak een oplossing, maar op sommige momenten zal je je eigen files willen openen op gelijk welke computer, of deze nu internet heeft of niet.

Als draagbaar medium van oud naar nieuw:

• de floppy drive (tot 1,44Mb)
• de zip drive (tot 250Mb) die niet echt een grote doorbraak heeft gekend
• de CD-RW (740Mb) & de DVD-RW (4,7Gb)
• de USB stick (momenteel tot 64Gb)
• de draagbare HDD. Vanwege beweegbare onderdelen meer gevoelig voor transport en aanzienlijk groter dan usb stick
  
  Als we nu alles naast elkaar laggen dan zien we dat de floppy's, zip drive en USB stick het meest gebruiksvriendelijk waren. Je kon er eenvoudig op gelijk wel moment gegevens op en af halen zonder extra speciale software nodig te hebben.
  
  De computers hadden vroeger allemaal een floppy drive en hebben nu allemaal USB poorten, waarentegen je speciale drives moest kopen voor de ZIP variant.
  
  Uiteindelijk zijn we terecht gekomen in het tijdperk van de USB stick. Ankele van de voordelen zijn dat de geheugen capaciteit geen begrenzingen heeft. Zo zal je zien dat zowat elk half jaar de capaciteit zal verdubbelen. Het kan op gelijk welke computer gebruikt worden zonder extra hardware te moeten installeren en werkt gewoon als extra (externe) harddrive.
  
  Dan is de vraag: "Welke USB stick kopen?"
  Wat je zal merken is dat je tegenwoordig op verschillende plaatsen gratis stick kan krijgen. De kleinere versies kosten dan ook bijna geen geld meer, mede aangezien de capaciteit zo snel vooruit gaat.
  
  Zelf maak ik 2 onderverdelingen in de USB sticks:
  

1. deze die enkel bruikbaar is als extern geheugen
2. deze die extra hardware toepassingen hebben. (zoals bvb mp3 spelers)

Ik ga het hier enkel hebben over 1., waarin dan toch weer twee groete groepen te herkennen zijn.

1. de standaard stick die 1 harde schijf vertegenwoordigd
2. de U3 stick die eens in de computer gestoken een CD-Drive en harde schijf nabootst

Het grote voordeel van deze 2de is dat er extra veiligheidsmogelijkheden zijn. Zo staat er op de CD-drive een programma dat je moet opstarten en waarop je moet inloggen om toegang te kunnen krijgen tot het HDD deel, wat mij persoonlijk een zeer veilig gevoel geeft.

In het begin heb ik dus ook gebruik gemaakt van de gewone USB-sticks, maar tegenwoordig gebruik ik enkel nog U3 USB stick.

De sticks van Sandisk bevallen me ten zeerste en zijn allemaal voorzien van U3 functionaliteit. Je hebt hierin de standaard "Cruzer Micro" en de "Cruzer titanium", welke ipv een plastic huls, een metalen cover heeft die veel steviger is.

GSM operatoren / Tarief formules

Eind van het jaar is aangebroken. Tijdens het verlof is het de ideale moment om eens het voorbije jaar op een rijtje te zetten. Wat financiële zaken te regelen. Boekhouding af te sluiten en uitgaven te optimaliseren voor volgend jaar.

Daarbij hoort het herbelijken van je tarief formule voor gsm gebruik.

Sinds 1998 zit ik bij Proximus. Ben steeds zeer tevreden geweest omtrent de srvice en mogelijkheden, en zeker de laatste jaren waarbij ik een Business formule heb, was de extra service leuk. (speciaal nummer voor business klanten waarbij je snel en zeer goed geholpen wordt.)

Je goed voelen bij een operator is 1 ding. Niet teveel betalen voor wat je gebruikt is een andere zaak. Vandaar dat ik het de moment vond om mijn gebruikt onder de loep te nemen en tarief formules te vergelijken.

Als ik zie dat een gemiddels gebruik tussen de 250 en 350 bel minuten ligt naar alle netwerken en vaste lijnen met een gemiddeld factuur rond de €75. (huisige formule Proximus, Business high)

Een vergelijking van operatoren en formules geeft het volgende beeld: (excl speciale aanbiedingen)

Proximus: Er komt 1 formule in aanmerking.

• Business Easy:
• €24,2*/m voor 100 minuten
• 101-301 minuten €0,18*/min
• 301-500 minuten €0,145*/min
• Komt gemiddeld op €60 en zou me €15 per maand besparen. Daarover had Proximus me zelf ook al geïnformeerd.
• Besparing: €15/m
• Opmerking: Momenteel loopt er een actie waarmee je tijdelijk €10/m betaald ipv €20/m. Aangezien dit om een actie gaat en niet std in abo zit deze niet mee in de berekening.

Base: Hier zijn er 2 formules die er goed uit komen:

• Base Business:
• €7,26*/m 120min Base & vaste lijnen
• Andere oproepen (vast & mobiel) €0,145*/min
• Deze zou uitkomen op een €53 per maand
• Besparing: €22/m
• Base Gold:
• €40/m 450min naar alle mobiele en vaste in België
• Deze zou incl SMS (wat er bij de andere ook me in zit) komen op €45 a €48 per maand
• Besparing: €27/m tot €30/m

Mobistar: Er is 1 formule die in de buurt komt.

• My45:
• €45/m 225min naar vast en mobiel
• Extra €0,20/min
• Zou komen op €60/m
• Besparing: €15/m
• Opmerking: Tot 1Jan2009 loopt een actie waarbij je 225min gratis krijgt per maand. Aangezien dit om een actie gaat en niet std in abo zit deze niet mee in de berekening.

Als we nu alles op een rijtje zetten concludeer ik voor mezelf dat Proximus een stuk duurder is dan de andere operatoren (voor mijn verbruik en volgens mijn berekeingen).

Extra acties bij Base. De activering van €30 hoefde ik niet te betalen en op mijn eerste factuur ktijg ik toch nog eens €30 korting. Tevens loopt er een vriendenactie tot 18jan 2009. Als je iemand nieuw aan brengt, krijg je een cadeau, (gsm, laptop,... zie voorwaarden)

Dit alles in acht genomen zou dus een overstap naar Base Gold een jaarbesparing zijn van ongeveer €300 op jaarbasis, gezien mijn vrouw ook mee klant wordt krijgen we een extra gsm. Vanaf 13 Jan zal je me dus op Base kunnen bellen (zelfde nummer).

Phillipe Starck Zikmu Speakers Belong in the Living Rooms of Those With Inscrutable Accents

But when I look at them, all I can think about is Nuni and Nooni Schoener. Zikmu, a collaboration between speaker company Parrot and noted super designer Phillipe Starck, is a set of 2.5 feet tall speakers that use Bluetooth to communicate with each other. They apparently broadcast sound 360° arround the room thanks to Parrot's NXT technology, which uses an extra-flat mebrane to create small-scale vibrations across the speakers' entire surface. "We were not aiming to create just another speaker," says Philippe Starck. "Our design focused more on making the air vibrate. There is actually a three-dimensional feel to this vibration, meaning that the air is palpable, almost humanlike in presence, like a fragrance."

The 3D virtual on-line community is like Second Life, only with the risk of rootkit. Hot. All kidding aside, the new service gives PS3 owners a customizable place to chat (voice or text) and play games with other PlayStation Home users through personalized avatars. Just like real life except without acne and all your social shortcomings. Home will be available to download and "experience basic features" for free -- some services (like creating a "club") will require cash though, so be prepared. Update: Added video of Red Bull's PlayStation Home game modeled after its Air Race after the break. It's also worth noting that the US is positioning this as an "open beta" whereas the Japanese announcement seems to position this as full production launch.

Benchmark Proves PlayStation 3 is the Best Blu-ray Player

It out performed all its competitors, and the fact that the PS3 doubles up as a game console makes it the best choice if you want a Blu-ray player. To quote: The results were a bit surprising, to tell the truth, since they proved that actually, Sony's PS3 was pretty much THE best Blu-ray player out there, out-performing each and every one of its competitors in just about all of the tests mentioned above.
