PlayStation Home launching globally tomorrow, December 11th

clipped from www.engadget.com We knew it was coming this month, now we have the day: tomorrow. Yup, PlayStation Home will launch globally on December 11th. The 3D virtual on-line community is like Second Life, only with the risk of rootkit. Hot. All kidding aside, the new service gives PS3 owners a customizable place to chat (voice or text) and play games with other PlayStation Home users through personalized avatars. Just like real life except without acne and all your social shortcomings. Home will be available to download and "experience basic features" for free -- some services (like creating a "club") will require cash though, so be prepared. Update: Added video of Red Bull's PlayStation Home game modeled after its Air Race after the break. It's also worth noting that the US is positioning this as an "open beta" whereas the Japanese announcement seems to position this as full production launch.

Benchmark Proves PlayStation 3 is the Best Blu-ray Player

Sure, we already knew it, but here it is proven again!

clipped from www.ps3news.com A benchmark test on Blu-ray players has recently been conducted by Blu-ray.com, and findings based on the results indicate that overall the PlayStation 3 is the best Blu-ray player out there. It out performed all its competitors, and the fact that the PS3 doubles up as a game console makes it the best choice if you want a Blu-ray player. To quote: The results were a bit surprising, to tell the truth, since they proved that actually, Sony's PS3 was pretty much THE best Blu-ray player out there, out-performing each and every one of its competitors in just about all of the tests mentioned above. Add that to the extra functionality it provides and Sony's claims that the PS3 is all that one needs within one's home entertainment center don't seem that farfetched anymore, especially given the fact that the price tag of the PS3 is actually lower than those of many of its competitors from the test.

Oculus Yacht Mimics a Giant, Man-Eating Fish

With room for 12 people to comfortably cruise at 25 knots, the rear of the Oculus remains open like a gigantic jaw that's eating the passengers alive in luxury. And what appears to be a cleverly-placed window fills in an apt spot for an eye. Inside, the ceilings reach an impressive 12-feet (hey, those are higher than where I live every day!) while the entire boat is still described as a "low rider," featuring retractable panels that protect the decks from swells. clipped from www.engadget.com When we asked how you'd change Nikon's 720p-recording D90 DSLR, many of you globe-trotting photogs let out wistful sighs, gazed at the brightest star, and wished with all your might for automatic geotagging of photos. Like some trickster genie, Nikon is granting your wishes, but we're not sure the GP-1 GPS add-on is exactly what you had in mind. It slots into the hot-shoe on most cameras (clipping onto the strap for a few) and uses an unwieldy looking cable to connect to the body of your D200, D3, D700, D90, D300, or D3X. We can't say that we're particularly fond of the device's means of indicating status, either: red blinky light = no satellites; green blinky = three satellites; green solid = four satellites or more. C'mon Nikon, for $240 you couldn't integrate that cable into a hand strap and put more than two LEDs up in there?
